Route:
Our tour today takes us into the Navistal, an eastern side valley of the Wipptal. A popular base for ski touring in winter, this area also shines in the warmer seasons with varied hiking trails and stunning views. The route described here is an extended version of the official Naviser Almenrunde: we skip the Peer-Alm but instead include the higher-altitude huts and sunny-side trails.
We begin at a small free parking area right on the main road just before entering the village of Navis. From here, we turn left twice and take a grassy trail uphill to the houses along the Oberweg. Following this road a few hundred meters into the valley, we turn left before the Grünhöfe. After passing a house, we follow a trail that climbs parallel to the old Grünberg lift up to the edge of the forest. After two switchbacks through the woods, the forest road turns east, and soon we join the main forest road toward the specifically beuatiful Seapnalm, which we reach quickly via two short trail shortcuts.
Just beyond the Seapnalm, the Vögeleralm offers another hut stop, and to the right of it we already spot our continuing path. This climbs gradually to the Grafmartalm, located below the Naviser Jöchl. The setting here is idyllic – with cows and horses peacefully grazing side by side, and a small chapel with a spring-fed fountain.
We take in one last view of the mighty peaks of the Zillertal Alps before following the trail slightly upward toward the Naviser Jöchl. After some meters, we turn right to the east. There are two options here: either stay level and head toward a small mountain lake (marked on the map), or take a slightly higher line, following visible trail traces across the slope. Both options converge, and a short, mostly pathless ascent brings us up to the Inntaler Höhenweg descending from the Jöchl.
We now follow a scenic mix of well-worn trails and the Mölstal road, with the option of including a short detour to the Nördlicher Klammerschober (2448 m), a summit well worth adding.
Shortly before reaching the Klammsee, we take the signed turn south and follow the trail into the Knappenkuchl. The massive boulders scattered across these open slopes are always striking, and on hot days they make excellent shade for a quick break. We soon reach a wide forest road, which we follow downhill to the Klammalm – rejoining the official Almenrunde from this point on.
Just after the Klammalm, we take a trail branching left. It first climbs slightly, then leads in enjoyable ups and downs to the beautifully located Poltenalm (highly recommended for a rest) and continues to the Stöcklalm. From here, we follow a wide track to reach the Naviserhütte in just a few minutes. The route now follows a forest clearing used in winter as a ski touring descent. This stretch is a pleasant, simple trail leading us down to the large tobogganing and parking area at Schranzberg in the valley floor. From here, a few minutes along the paved road brings us back to our starting point on the main road.
Pro tip: Mostly open, sunny terrain – not ideal for the hottest summer days. But it’s a perfect late summer outing. Be sure to check the hut opening times in advance!
